Breeding Lines

At Sundance Retrievers, we specialize in developing three lines of Labrador Retrievers.

  1. The Sporting Dog has been developed from our American and British lines for active companions, hunting, agility, SAR, and detection work.
  2. The Classic Dog has been created from our Irish and British lines for companionship and therapy.
  3. The Gentle Dog, bred from English show lines and British field trail lines, is ideal for Companionship, Comfort K-9, and Service Work.

Gentle Dogs

A larger-framed dog who is mild-mannered and intelligent, bred to excel as a companion or service dog.

After spending their first four months receiving our foundational and Head Start puppy training (to instill obedience and good canine citizenship), they will be selected for one of the following training programs:

  • Companion: Ready at 6 months
  • Advanced Companion: Ready at 8 months
  • Therapy/Comfort K-9: Ready at 9 months
  • Started Service: Ready at 11 months 
  • Service: Ready at ~2 years

Classic Dogs

Working dogs in the classic British tradition, with a calm and biddable temperament.  Bred for companionship, making a dependable partner in the field and at home.

Classic Dogs are available as young as 4 months, after undergoing our foundational and Head Start puppy training (to instill obedience and good canine citizenship). Otherwise, they will go home with you after completing one of the following training programs:

  • Companion: Ready at 6 months
  • Advanced Companion: Ready at 8 months
  • Started Service: Ready at 11 months

Sporting Dogs

Driven dogs for the demanding sportsman and outdoor family. Created for the active lifestyle, hunting, agility, and search-and-rescue.

Sporting dogs undergo extensive training to harness their innate drive to become a dependable partner in the field and a steadfast companion at home. 

Retrievers from this line will train for one of the following roles:

  • Advanced Companion: Ready at 8 months
  • Shed Dog: Ready at 9 months; demonstrated ability to locate shed antlers
  • Started Hunting Dog: Ready at 1 year; hunting exposure and groundwork
  • Seasoned Hunting  Dog: Ready at 14 months; demonstrated hunting and guiding skills
  • Finished Hunting Dog: Ready at ~2 years; proficiency in waterfowl and upland hunting
