​We offer training programs to create the foundation to get your pup started on the right path. We can help your dog develop the skills to prepare for Therapy, Started Service or Service work.

Therapy and Comfort K-9 Program

A Gentle or Classic Dog that completes this program will:

  • Have a calm, gentle demeanor.
  • Know Basic Obedience Skills (here, heel, down, and sit stays)
  • Sit before and after going through doors
  • Sit until released to eat
  • Fun Retrieves on land and water
  • Be crate-trained and started on their house training.
  • Have exposure to high-stress environments, frequent field trips, store settings etc
  • Be comfortable in family settings, car rides, and new experiences
  • Have exposure to travel and new terrain.
  • Be comfortable working in large groups of people.

After completing this program, your dog will be a strong candidate for CGC, Therapy, or Comfort programs. They can go on to work in nursing homes, municipalities, schools, or libraries.

When Is a Therapy/Comfort K-9 Dog Ready to Bring Home? At 9 months old

Started Service Dog Program:

A Gentle or Classic dog completing this program will have the following:

  • A calm, quiet demeanor
  • Easily directed and looks for cues
  • Formal obedience of here, heel, sit
  • Advanced obedience: extended sit/stays, down/stays, off-leash recall 
  • "Ready to Learn" task skill sets with their handler
  • Sit before and after going through doors
  •  Sit until released to eat
  • Fun Retrieves on land and water
  • Crate-trained and started on their house training
  • Exposed to high-stress environments, comfortably wears a training vest
  • Frequent field trips to stores, car rides, etc.
  • Comfortable in a family setting
  • Exposed to travel and new terrain

Upon completing this program, your dog can begin learning task skills with their handler. With an excellent foundation in obedience, frequent public access exposure, and looking for the " next right choice to make," these started service dogs can learn assistance skills for: Medical Alert, Psychiatric, Mobility, Gluten Detection, and more.

When Is a Started Service Dog Ready to Take Home? At 11 months old

Service Dog Program:

A Gentle or Classic dog completing our Service Program for PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety will have the following:

  • A calm, quiet demeanor
  • Easily directed and looks for cues
  • Formal obedience of here, heel, sit
  • Advanced obedience: extended sit/stays, down/stays, off-leash recall
  • One or more assistance skill sets*: Lateral front heel, lateral back heel, lead-out position (if needed), crowd blocking, exposed to and taught to work with a brace/harness, tug to open/close doors, exposed to and working with panel light switched to turn lights off/on, gluten detection alert
  • Sit before and after going through doors
  • Sit until released to eat
  • Fun Retrieves on land and water
  • Crate-trained and started on their house training.
  • Exposed to high-stress environments, comfortably wears a training vest
  • Frequent field trips to stores, car rides, etc.
  • Comfortable in a family setting
  • Exposed to travel and new terrain

Upon completing this program, your dog can begin working with you in the home and around town. They have the self- confidence and maturity to be an asset to your life.
